Lady Gaga came to prominence following the release of her debut studio album The Fame (2008), which included the hits “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Bad Romance” and as of December 2020, she has sold over 36 million copies worldwide. The album earned her six Grammy nominations and two wins as well as a slew of other awards recognition, including a record setting thirteen MTV Video Music Award nominations. Gaga is the first artist in history to claim four #1 hits from a debut album (“Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “LoveGame” and “Paparazzi”).

She is also the only artist in the digital era to top the 5 million sales mark with her first two hits. Gaga broke the record when her single “Poker Face” reached 5 million in sales after her debut single “Just Dance” accomplished the same feat the year before. She has over 1.3 billion combined views of all her videos online. She is also a staple in the social networking world SRCH WAS HERE. She’s one of the biggest living people on Facebook with over 33 million ‘likes’ and is #1 on Twitter with over 9.5 million followers.

Her third studio album, Born This Way, is scheduled for release on May 23, 2011. The first single from the album, title track “Born This Way”, set a music industry record by becoming the fastest single in history to reach sales of 1,000,000 copies (five days after its February 11th release). Only the 19th single to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (issue date February 26, 2011), the recording was Lady Gaga’s third #1 on the chart. On iTunes, the song debuted at the top spot in 14 countries, including the U.S., and hit #1 in all 23 iTunes stores worldwide its first week out. “Born This Way” was Gaga’s 7th single to hit #1 at Top 40. The second single from the album, “Judas” has eclipsed 500,000 in sales and Lady Gaga’s latest single, “The Edge of Glory,” went straight to #1 on iTunes in its first day of release and stayed there for 3 days.

ARTPOP was released on November 11, 2013. It spawned a top 5 single, and radio hit, Applause, and stayed on top of the charts for several weeks. Despite having mixed reviews, and receiving a score of 61 on Metacritic, she managed to get a second #1 album, and sold 258,000 copies in one week. It also reached top 10 in over twenty countries. According to IFPI, it was the 9th best selling album globally even though it was released on November of 2013. Applause was also released on August 11, 2013 while being critically, and commercially acclaimed, reaching #4 on the Billboard hot 100 in the United States. Do What U Want, featuring the controversial artist, R. Kelly, was released on October 21, 2013 as the second single from ARTPOP due to strong support from the general public, and reached #13 on the Billboard hot 100 chart despite the controversy surrounding the song, and the song lacking a music video. G.U.Y. was released as the final single from ARTPOP, but only reached #76 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart due to the lack of support from both her label, and the general public.

Cheek to Cheek, a collaboration album with Tony Bennett, released on September 19, 2014. It received positive reviews, and ended up with a 64 on Metacritic with critics praising her vocals. It was her 3rd #1 album, and sold 131,000 copies on the first week of sales. It spawned two singles “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love”, and “Anything Goes”. She, and Tony Bennett headlined the Cheek to Cheek Tour starting on December 30, 2014, and ending on August 1, 2015. They traveled through Europe, and the US with 36 dates.

Joanne, Gaga’s 5th album, was released on October 21, 2016. It was a stripped down, soft-rock inspired pop album, and explored different sounds than her past albums. It was her 4th #1 album, selling 201,000 units on its first week of sales. It reached a score of 67 on Metacritic. She released Perfect Illusion on September 9, 2016 to mixed reviews from music critics. They said it lacked stellar music production, and criticized her vocal abilities while other praised the stadium rock vibes, and raw vocals to the song. It only reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Million Reasons was released as Gaga’s second single from Joanne to positive reviews with critics, and fans alike praising her simplistic country-pop sound, and amazing vocals. It originally reached #76 on the charts when released as the original promotional single from Joanne, but when released as an official single, it went up to a peak of #4 after being performed at the 2017 Super Bowl halftime show.

The ASIB soundtrack, accompanied by the ASIB movie, was released on October 5, 2018. It mixed several genres such as blues, folk, country, Southern rock, Americana, R&B, electro-pop, dance-pop, and soul. It reached a score of 78 on Metacritic, and it was received with positive reviews to critical acclaim along with the movie. The ASIB soundtrack ended up being her 5th #1 album, and Bradley Cooper’s first #1 album. It also spawned the hit single, Shallow, from the soundtrack that reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and became Gaga’s 4th #1 single 10 years into her career. It sold 231,000 copies in its first week of sales. She also released three other singles from the soundtrack, but they were international only singles, and they were also received with critical acclaim.

Chromatica, Gaga’s sixth album, was released on May 29, 2020. Its original date was supposed to be a release date of April 10, 2020, but was postponed because of the global Coronavirus pandemic. Chromatica is a return to Gaga’s electro-pop, and dance-pop roots with influences of deep house, trance, drum and bass, rave, French house, acid house, euro-disco, funk, and techno among many other genres. She released her lead single, Stupid Love, from Chromatica, back on February 28, 2020. It reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and became Gaga’s first top 10 hit since The Edge of Glory, and top 5 since Applause. It was received with critical acclaim from music critics welcoming her back into the pop world, and praising both her vocals, and production. It also received almost 10M views in 24 hours. Stupid Love amassed almost 6M streams in one week. It currently has over 100M million streams. Gaga’s 2nd single, Rain On Me, with Ariana Grande, was released on May 22, 2020. It reached a #1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it Gaga’s 5th #1 hit, and Ariana’s 4th #1 hit. After the video was released, it gave her her 2nd highest amount of YouTube views with 21M views in 24 hours. Rain On Me has currently over 468M streams. Sour Candy, with BLACKPINK, was released as a promo single a day before the official album release, and the audio video for Sour Candy gave her her most videos on a YouTube video with nearly 25M views in 24 hours. Chromatica was her highest rated score on Metacritic with a 79 score, and was critically acclaimed. It sold 274,000 copies in its first week, making it her 2nd best-selling album in her discography, and Chromatica also reached #1 on the charts, making it her 6th #1 album in a row. 911 was released as the third official single from Chromatica on September 25, 2020 with a critically acclaimed video, directed by Tarsem Singh. It garnered 7.6 million views in 24 hours, and was highly praised by critics, fans, and casual listeners alike.

Gaga is well-recognized for her outré sense of style as a recording artist, in fashion, in performance and in her music videos. Her contributions to the music industry have garnered her numerous achievements including five Grammy Awards amongst twelve nominations, two Guinness World Records and the estimated sale of 15 million albums and 51 million singles worldwide. Billboard named her both the “2010 Artist of the Year” and the top selling artist of 2010 ranking her as the 73rd Artist of the 2000s decade. Gaga has been included in Time’s annual “The 2010 Time 100” list of the most influential people in the world as well as Forbes’ list of the “The World’s Most Powerful Celebrities” in the world. Forbes also placed her at number seven on their annual list of the world’s “100 Most Powerful Women.”
